Nex Play LLC has partnered with the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana Recreation to enhance their hashtag#Reflection room. When I spoke with Justin Peterson and Terry Elmore initially about the space, the response was although it was nice, it just wasn't getting the usage that it deserved.
Like all projects, I needed to understand their vision, their audience, timelines, and what budgetary constraints we had to work with.
We designed the room utilizing Jacob Guajardo's help and made it go from a desolate room to one that came to life even before it was finished. You know you have implemented the right ideas into a space when the students walking by start asking a lot of great questions like "Where is this going"? "When can we start using these?" and "Can I use it now out here in the hallway?"
It is even better when the staff comes in to try everything and they don't want to leave. There of course were favorites but they all left happy and refreshed, which of course is the whole point.
Next month they are hosting the B1G TEN meetings and it will be one of their focal points to share what they did, why they did it, how it has been received, and why our partnership made it work.
